A collective of ten artists prepare for their first exhibition together. They wonder: What does successful together-ness looks like? How little separation is necessary to maintain a group’s integrity, and how much is feasible to maintain friendship? Is collective art making even possible? Through documentation and reeneactment, This Should Have Been Done a Long Time Ago focuses on the process of negotiation, compromise and being together. The film follows the group’s preparation for an exhibition, moving from a winter of confinement to a summer of unpredictable and fluctuating possibilities of together-ness.
